Meet Ale and Cullen

We are Alejandra (Ale) and Cullen Angulo-Scheland, the founders of Mudberry. We moved to Westminster, Colorado in August of 2022 after buying the 1.23 acre property of our dreams, where we could finally build our suburban homestead and art playground. Between the two of us, we have 12 years of experience gardening and small-scale homesteading. We are seasoned yard hands and land stewards with experience building raised beds, fences, and chicken coops, as well as cultivating native species gardens and perennial food forests. Alejandra has six years of ceramics experience, attending pottery community studios, including the City of Westminster study, Arvada Center for Arts and Humanities, and the Helen DeVitt Jones Clay Studio in Lubbock, Texas.

Our technical training is in Geology, both holding Masters degrees in the field (Cullen from California State University, Fullerton and Ale from Texas Tech University). We use our science backgrounds and understanding of earth systems, geology, and mapping to manage a homestead that is well-balanced and sustainable. Alejandra loves to apply her knowledge of high-temperature magma geochemistry to her ceramic practice. Unsurprisingly, the chemistry occurring inside the earth is remarkably similar to that occurring inside of the kiln!
